Akashi Bridge is the longest suspension bridge in the world which connects Maiko in Kobe City and Iwaya in Awaji island crossing over the Akashi Kaikyo (Akashi Strait). It is also called "purple bridge". Its total length is 3.911 m and the longest span is 1.991m. It started for traffic on April 5th, 1998.
